PARENT MEETING
– FAMILIES IN CULTURAL TRANSITION
We are offering parents from different cultural backgrounds the
opportunity to participate in a “Families in Cultural Transition” information
session to be held on Wednesday 8 July from 9 to 10:30am, in the school hall.
The program will be facilitated by our school counsellors

MATHS ON THE NET – PROBLEM SOLVING
Nader, Marc & Amit from 5/6F participated in the latest Maths on the Net
problem which involved using the
Chance and Data strategy. This is what the boys had to do: “We had to find out how many times 2, 3, 4, 5,
6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 were rolled in sets of 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500,
1000 and 5000 rolls. We also had to find out how increasing or decreasing the
number affects the outcome. We came first out of a possible 300 schools. With
our solution which involved using graphs, tables and analysing data, we were
selected as the best solution out of a possible 300 schools. We were awarded
with the first place gold medal”. Well done boys!
MRS SADLEIR IS RETIRING
On Friday 10
July, Mrs Gail Sadleir will be taking long service leave which will precede her
retirement from teaching. I am sure you will all join with us in wishing Mrs Sadleir all the best for the
future. Mrs Sadleir has been both the Assistant Principal, Deputy Principal and
has relieved as Principal on numerous occasions.
She has had
numerous projects that she has implemented at the school that will leave a
lasting legacy such as the frog pond, computer lab and playground equipment
shade structure. Mrs Sadleir has also implemented programs such as Success for
Boys, Taekwondo and the drumming group. Her
achievements were recognised earlier this term with a meritorious award from
Sydney Region. Mrs Sadleir will be missed by students, parents and staff. The
students are preparing something special for Mrs Sadleir, but keep it a
secret!!
The P&C and Community

SRC VIDEO CONFERENCE
Last week the
Year 5 and 6 SRC students participated in a video conference with the SRC of
Malabar Public school. The students were able to share ideas and find out how
each school organised their meetings and fundraising.
All the children enjoyed the experience. The video conference facility allows
us to connect with other schools in a meaningful way and learn from each other.

Our Excursion
to
On Thursday the
11th of June 2009, Year 3 went on an Excursion to
When we arrived
we had to sit on the grass. We were sorted into groups and had one of the tour
guides called Pat.
The first
activity was going down the hill near where Captain Cook landed. Pat showed us
a monument built where Captain Cook landed in April 28th; 1770.The
next monument we saw was about a botanist who was on board Captain Cook’s ship.
His name was ‘Joseph Banks’. He drew many of the plants that Captain Cook had
found and told him to draw. Joseph Banks named a plant and called it the ‘Banksia’. Then we saw a grave of a person who died because
he was sick and had very bad asthma.
After that, we
performed a play. There were four marines, Captain Cook, Joseph Banks, Isaac,
Sydney Parkinson and the sailors. In the play I was a sailor.
Next we went to
the museum and we saw a replica of the Endeavour. There were many different
parts of the ship. We went to the next room and saw a black
cannon. Pat also showed us some pictures.
Following that we
went on a bushwalk. We saw trees that had squiggles on the bark from a moth,
holes in trees from grubs and honey from bees in trees. We nibbled some
sarsaparilla and wattle leaves. We had a whistle and we pushed and turned it to
make bird sounds so birds might come and whistle back.
After this we
went back to where we started and we had lunch.
Finally we could
play with our friends. We had fun playing tips. Then we boarded the bus and
returned to school. The day was very tiring but it was a fun.
