HOLIDAYS

The staff at Carlton would like to wish all students and their families a happy and relaxing holiday in July.  We are very pleased with the standard of work being achieved by the students and look forward to even better results in the second semester of 2009.  Thank you to all the staff for their hard work in the first part of the year, and a very big thank you to all of the parents who have supported the school in so many different ways.  We expect that the second part of the year will be very busy but also productive for the school community.

On the staff development day, teachers will continue their professional development in the area of developing the comprehension skills of students. This will then be followed by a session on teaching music, with a focus on our term 4 music program called “Musica Viva”.

A WORD FROM MRS SADLEIR

After twelve and a half years at Carlton this will be the last item I write for the newsletter.  It is hard to believe that I am retiring.  I certainly have mixed feeling at the moment – excitement and certainly sadness.  I have loved my time at this school and will cherish the very many memories I have.  There have been numerous opportunities for me to work closely with parents and students.  I value the friendships I have made along the way and the support of the parents has been unbelievable.  Your children are remarkable.  They have always been friendly, respectful and wanting to learn.  It has been difficult trying to get them to go home in the afternoons on some days and that says something for the school when the children do not want to go home!  As you are aware, the school offers your children much more than an academic education.  The school looks at your children and endeavours to make them complete as individuals.  I cannot praise the staff at Carlton highly enough.  The work they do is amazing and the results speak for themselves.  Yes we have outstanding students but we also have so many activities for those students who do not stand out in the same ways.  These students can still be successful and excel in so many other areas.

I also want to acknowledge the Admin staff for their patience, tolerance, compassion and the many skills they have to master.  The leadership of the school is exceptional.  This school runs like a well oiled clock and that is because of the dedication of the executives.  In particular I would like to thank Mr Patterson and Mrs Tollis for their valued friendship and support and their very talented leadership of the school.  I would also like to thank the P & C and the Community Club who presented me with gifts on behalf of the parents.  The cut glass crystal goblets are beautiful and the Westfield card will be used to buy something special.  Thank you to the Carlton School community – I will hold the memories of this school deep in my heart forever.

Mrs Sadleir

SCHOOL HOLIDAY TRAVEL IDEAS

What can you buy for a dollar these days? Believe it or not you can take your child on a trip to Coffs Harbour,  Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and many more places in the school holidays for as little as a dollar. CountryLink lists all sorts of vacation ideas and great travel deals for families on its website. www.countrylink.info/promotions#dollar   If you are in Sydney or travelling to Sydney, make use of the Family Fare deal when seeing Sydney by public transport. When at least one fare paying adult travels with their children or grandchildren, the first child travels for a child fare and the other children travel free.

On Family Funday Sunday, $2.50 per person will get you all day travel on CityRail, Sydney Buses, Sydney Ferries and participating private bus companies. It's available every Sunday, when a minimum of one adult and one child related by family travel together.
