Dear Parents & Caregivers,

ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORT

All families will receive a copy of the Annual School Report 2008. It is a snapshot of the school year with details of programs, achievements and future targets. I encourage you to all read the report and celebrate the work of our school.

ANZAC DAY THANK YOU

Thank you to all the families who contributed flowers to our Anzac Day service. All flowers were taken to St George Aged Care Nursing Home at the end of the day. The residents and staff were very pleased to receive them and were impressed with the generosity of Carlton School.

BUILDING UPDATE

Classes have now moved into their new rooms and they are looking very settled. 3T will complete their move after the NAPLAN testing. This week one of the demountables has already been removed from the school site and the remaining three will move in the next few weeks.

NAPLAN TESTING

Most students in Years 3 and 5 have now completed all National Tests in language, writing, reading and mathematics. If any student was away for the tests then they can do a catch up test tomorrow Friday.

VISITING THE SCHOOL

We ask that all parents who visit the school at odd times during the day, come to the office and collect a visitors name tag after they sign in. We want to ensure the safest environment for your children and we want to know who is in the school and for what purpose. Thank you for your co-operation on this matter

OC APPLICATION FORMS

Opportunity Class application forms are now available for students in Year 4 who would like to sit the OC tests on Wednesday 5 August, 2009. Parents should be aware that OC Class positions are very competitive and only the top 4% of students have any chance of gaining a place in an Opportunity Class. Tomorrow Friday 15 May, Mrs Tollis will provide information about completing the OC application forms at 8:30am in the hall. Please note the change of venue. Come along to this meeting if you want more information about the OC application process.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Remy Blatch-Williams on his selection in the Sydney Region Football team. The team will be competing against other regions later this term.

COMMUNITY CLUB

The Community Club will be meeting next Thursday 22 May at 9:15am in the staffroom. Ms Rasmussen will be talking about how to help your child with handwriting as part of the meeting. All parents welcome.

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS

At Carlton Public School we try to provide the very best education possible for your child. Good learning needs good resources. Each year we ask parents to make a contribution to purchase extra sporting equipment, library books and equipment for classrooms, electronic whiteboards and extra computers. Our main focus this year will be electronic whiteboards.  Your contribution makes a very real difference to what the school can provide. To help parents out this year we delayed asking for voluntary contributions until the end of Term One. If you have not paid as yet please return your contribution by Wednesday, 20 May 2009.

Win one of 5 $100 “TOYS R US” Vouchers

Any family who has paid the voluntary school contribution in full by 27 May, 2009 will enter a draw to win one of 5x $100

Toys R Us Vouchers.

The contribution fee this year is the same as last year

·                     $50 for the first child
