EDUCATION WEEK
We are looking forward to parents and friends visiting our school during
Education week.
There is an invitation included in the newsletter to our Open Day.
Carlton PS has had many changes recently and we are very excited about the
completion of Block G and the installation of 6 interactive whiteboards.
Please remember that Open Day is an opportunity to visit classrooms but
is not the day for an interview with the teacher.
Our students will be performing at
CONGRATULATIONS
MRS SADLEIR AND MRS JACOBSON
On Tuesday night Sydney Region hosted their annual awards night. This is
a very prestigious presentation ceremony, held at the Australian Golf Club. I am
very pleased to announce that Mrs Sadleir was awarded
“Meritorious Service to Public Education” for her tireless involvement, over many years and in a range of areas, particularly student
welfare. Mrs Jacobson, the president of the Community Club, was awarded
“Outstanding Service to Public Education by a Parent or Community Member”. Mrs
Jacobson has been the driving force behind many
activities in the school, in particular her leadership of the fundraising
activities of the school. Mr Patterson was present at the awards night and was
very proud to see Carlton PS being recognised. One of our local high schools,
Kingsgrove High, was recognized for their achievement in improving student
outcomes.
COMPUTER
COMPETITION – 27 May
Please note that students must be at school at 7:45 on Wednesday
morning, if they are participating in the UNSW computer competition. If your
child is late it is not possible to complete it later in the day.
MANDARIN AND
CANTONESE EISTEDDFOD
Good luck to all the students who are participating in the language
eisteddfods over the next 2 weekends. They have been successful in the past, so
we are hoping a great result this year too. Thank you very much to Mrs Liang,
who has put in a great deal of personal time in preparing the students and will
be attending on the Sundays.
LATEST ADDRESS
AND PHONE NUMBER PLEASE.
We greatly appreciate being kept up to date with your latest address and
telephone numbers, especially mobiles as people tend to change these numbers
frequently. Please call into the office, email the school,
or phone the school to let us know any changes. It makes life better for
everyone if we are up to date with your home and work details and those of
emergency contact people.
LOST PROPERTY
We make every
effort to return lost items of clothing to our students and if the name inside
the item is clearly visible we are able to do this. Please check your child’s
clothing regularly – once a fortnight is a good routine to do this – and make
sure the name is clearly able to be read. Please use a black permanent marking pen and write the name on the back
of the collar area. Do not write on the inside of the jacket as the pen will
rub off very quickly.
CHESS CLASSES
Chess classes are being held on
Tuesday lunchtimes from 1:00pm – 2:00pm and will be held in the 2F classroom.
The cost for Term 2 is $50. Classes are open to students in Years K-6. We recommend that Kindergarten children who
have not played chess wait until Terms 3 & 4 before joining the chess
class. If you are interested in taking part in the chess lessons, please pick
up a permission slip from the front office, then
return it you’re your payment to the office.
During
the class children play games against each other, putting newly learned
strategies into practice, and receiving personal feedback from the
teacher. As the term progresses and the
children become proficient in all the basics, the lessons will move on to more
complex ideas such as strategy, middle game ideas and chess techniques.
For more information on the benefits
of chess please ring (02) 9745 1170 or visit http://www.sydneyacademyofchess.com.au/edubenefits.php
