Dear Parents & Caregivers,

UNIFORMS

At Carlton Public School, we pride ourselves on being a uniform wearing school and it is the policy of the school that children must wear school uniform. Over the last few weeks a number of children are wearing clothes that are not a part of our school uniform and this is not acceptable.   Please ensure that your child does wear school uniform.

APPLICATION FOR LEAVE OF ABSENCE

Parents, if you are going on a holiday for more than 15 days you need to complete an application for leave form before going on the holiday.  This must be done at least one month prior to the leave being taken. For all other incidents of leave whether they include illness or other reasons a note explaining the absence must be sent along to the school.

ADVANCE NEWS    RE:  END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR

The NSW State Government announced earlier this year that public schools are to close to students on the last 2 days of the school year so that teachers can engage in professional development. These days are:-

                        Thursday 17 December, 2009

 Friday 18 December, 2009

Last day for students is Wednesday 16 December.

EXCURSIONS

Excursions form a very valuable part of the teaching program and children from Year 2 this week have been to the IMAX Theatre at darling Harbour. Year 1 will be going next week. Year 3 has been to Kurnell to visit the site of early white arrival in Australia and Year 4 has been to Hyde Park Barracks in Sydney.  And a group of 40 Year 6 students went to Bunnings at Rockdale to explore environmental issues. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to go along to the various excursions. Thank you to the teachers for organising these excursions, and a big thank you to Mrs Austin and the team in the front office for all their work in supporting excursions by doing notes, booking buses, counting money and ensuring that everything works smoothly and on time.

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS

Congratulations to the following students who won “Toys R Us” spending money as part of the Voluntary donations sent in.

Jenna Yan                  Daisy Liu        Sarah Thanos

                            Anastasija Vasilevska   and   Richard Chen

WORLD ENVIRONMENT MUFTI DAY

Thank you to everyone who donated a gold coin yesterday for our special Environment Mufti Day.   We raised $870.00!   Mrs Murchie and Ms Quantock will arrange for garden items to be purchased for the new garden enclosure near the frog mural on A Block.

TERM THREE SPORTS

Next week the notes will go out for the various term three sports. These sports fill up quickly so please return money and permission notes ASAP to school.  For next term we are replacing gymnastics at Hurstville Aquatic Centre with Gymnastics. This I am sure will be popular, so watch out for the notes going home, places will be limited.

BUNNINGS BBQ

The community club was hoping to run a fundraising BBQ at Rockdale Bunnings. This has been cancelled due to a lack of volunteers.

BE YOUR BEST Budd:e!

To help your child stay safe online, the Federal Government has launched a new tool called Budd:e E-Security which is available free for all Australian schools.

The Budd:e E-Security Education Modules feature e-security tips, games and video content. They have been developed specifically to provide an enjoyable and informative experience for students from Year 3 to Year 9.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL - FIELD EVENTS

AGES 10-12YRS

On Monday 22 June, 2009, the school will be holding the Athletics Carnival Field Events at school.  These events are high jump, long jump and shot put.  We will be taking students in years 4-6 who are turning 10-12years old in 2009.  If your child is turning 8 or 9 years in 2009 and they can participate competitively, then they are able to compete in the 10 year age group.  This is the same at zone level where 8-10 year olds compete in one junior age group.  If your child does discus throwing at Little Athletics, please send a note stating their distance from their coach.  If their distance qualifies, they may be able to go to zone.  Please see the timetable below for further details.  If there are any questions please see either Mr Clark or Mrs Hanley.  Please also note the Track events (100m. 200m and 800m) will be held on Tuesday 4 August at Bexley Oval.  Further details will follow soon.
