Dear Parents
& Caregivers,
UNIFORM SHOP DONATION $15000
Thank you very much to the Uniform Shop, in particular Gertie Kelly and Lyn Partridge, for their tireless effort
in organising and selling uniforms. By running the uniform shop as an activity
of the school, all profits go back to the school. I was very pleased to accept,
on the behalf of the school, a cheque for $15,000.
This will go towards classroom resources and school programs. Thank you very
much.
National
Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy 2009 Reports
The
National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results have been released
nationally. Reports were distributed to parents on Monday this week. The
initial assessment of school results indicate that we have again performed well
in all areas. Our results in mathematics are particularly pleasing. The P&C
meeting in November will have a presentation of the school data, with a
detailed analysis by staff. Parents are encouraged to speak to their child’s
class teacher if they have concerns.
TRANSITION TO HIGH SCHOOL
The
Federal government is supporting Year 6 students moving onto High school. Our
local High School, Kogarah High, is developing a strong program, in
consultation with its feeder primary schools, to help
Year 6 students became familiar with the routines and expectations of High
school. As this program develops,
OFFICIAL OPENING OF BLOCK G AND
On Tuesday 3
November at 10am there will be the official opening of Block G and the games
court. This will be a formal occasion with the official party comprising
Federal and State politicians. Parents will be invited to attend. To mark this
day, we will be running a colouring-in competition
for students. The winning student will have their work turned into a
commemorative bookmark for all students to receive. Class teachers have been
given the details and students may have the opportunity to complete the task in
class or it may be given as a home task. Selected entries will also be
displayed at the official ceremony. Entries close 28 September.
DRUMMING GROUP
There are some
vacancies for any student who would like to be part of our drumming group. The group has performed at many school functions and are always
exciting to listen to. The group meets at Wednesday lunchtime. If your child is
interested, please see Mrs Aitken.
LIFE EDUCATION VAN
We are looking
forward to the visit of the Life Education Van at the beginning of term 4. This
is an interactive program, which is highly stimulating for students. It
encourages a healthy attitude to our bodies and how we treat them. All students
are expected to attend, as it is part of our PDHPE curriculum. The students
also receive a booklet for work to be supplemented in class.
