Dear Parents & Caregivers,

WELCOME BACK

We would like to welcome back to school all our students and parents and a special welcome to our new families. This term will be very busy with lots of special things happening, including the start of our new building program.

OFFICIAL OPENING OF BLOCK G AND GAMES COURT

The official opening of Block G and the games court will be on November 3, 2009 at 10am. Parents are invited to attend this event. The Federal Member for Barton, Mr Robert McClelland and Ms Cherie Burton, will represent the State and Federal Ministers of Education. The Year 2 choir, Expanding Horizon’s Choir, Chinese Dance group and the Maori dance group will perform at the opening.

WALKATHON

Our walkathon will be held on Friday 6 November from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Students will soon get cards to collect sponsorship. Our walkathon every year is very successful and it is an easy way of raising money for the school. There again will be great prizes for lucky draw winners.

SCHOOL HATS ON

With the hot weather, we need to make sure that children understand the need to wear a school hat whenever they are out of doors.  At school we enforce the “No Hat Shade Play” policy and encourage children to drink water often.  Students are allowed to have plastic bottles of water only on their desks during lesson times and teachers regularly guide children as to the correct type of play for hot weather.  We would appreciate parents also encouraging children to wear a school hat, drink water, play sensibly and apply sunscreen before children come to school and also during the day.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

In Term 4 we encourage all the students to wear summer uniform. They may need a light jacket for the early morning, but they need to be able to take it off during the day. Many children come to school wearing too many layers, even in the hot weather.

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION MORNING

Kindergarten Orientation day will be held on Thursday, 5 November, 2009 at 9:30 am.  This is in addition to our very successful Kindy Start program, which has been operating on a Monday morning.

TAEKWONDO FOR YEARS 1 AND 2  STARTING THURSDAY 29 OCTOBER

Thank you for your support of this valuable program. We filled up the class very quickly and this shows just how popular it is with our younger students. Please remind your child to go to Taekwondo on Thursday and your child’s teacher will also remind him or her.
