Dear Parents & Caregivers,

OFFICIAL OPENING OF BLOCK G AND GAMES COURT

The official opening of Block G and the games court will be on November 3, 2009 at 10am. Parents are invited to attend this event. The Federal Member for Barton, Mr Robert McClelland and Ms Cherie Burton, will represent the State and Federal Ministers of Education. The Year 2 Choir, Expanding Horizon’s Choir, Chinese Dance group and the Maori dance group will perform at the opening.

STUDENTS TAKING HOLIDAYS DURING TERM TIME

All parents who wish to take their children out of school during term time for 15 days or more must apply for leave at least 6 weeks before the leave. Many parents only inform the school the day before they are leaving and this is not acceptable. I must also stress that it is an application for leave and it must be approved. Students who will be away for more than 50 days must have their leave approved at Regional office.

If the leave is over 20 days PROOF OF TRAVEL arrangements must be supplied.

SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL PACKAGE

Parents wishing to apply, on behalf of their child, for selective high school entry for Year 7 in 2011 are required to submit an application to the current primary school by 30 November, 2009.

Parents must use the printed form in the application package as each form has a unique barcode to identify the applicant.

All applicants are required to sit the Selective High School Placement Test which will be held on 18 March, 2010.

We will make forms available to those seeking them as we receive them. Please note, Selective High Schools are highly competitive and parents should seek advice from their teachers before completing the application form.

There will be an information meeting for parents at 8:30am Friday 30 October, in Miss Flower’s room. All interested parents are urged to attend.

PHOTOGRAPHS

We are still waiting for the photograph order to arrive at the school; however, parents may like to order a “whole school” photo. The photo will be on display at the front  office and costs $14.

WALKATHON

Your child has received their green Walkathon Sponsorship card  for our Walkathon on Friday 6 November, 2009 starting at 11.30am.  This is one of our major fundraisers for the year. Come and join in the fun. We ask that all students and families try to get as many sponsors as possible.  This year we have set a target of $10,000 and if each student in the school was to have $15 worth of sponsorship we would more than exceed the target.

To encourage children to participate in getting sponsors we have some great prizes.

Major prize:   I Pod

2 nd prize:                  $100 voucher from Rebel Sport

3 rd prize:                   $100 voucher from Rebel Sport

4 th prize                    $100 voucher from Rebel Sport

Class prize:  The child who brings in the most money collected in each class will receive one type of sports ball.

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION

Next Thursday morning we will be welcoming our 2010 Kindy students and their parents to the school. Our current Kindy students will be performing and our Year 5 will meet their buddies for the first time. At this time we have over 130 Kindy enrolments.

NOT JUST A BRUSH ART EXHIBITION

Tomorrow night is the opening of the "Not Just a Brush" Sydney Region Art Exhibition, 6pm at Hazelhurst Gallery, Gymea. Parents and students are very welcome to attend.
